Dickerson and Sarchet Finish 3rd, Remain 2nd in Championship
Braselton, GA (May 31, 2021) – Dakota Dickerson and Josh Sarchet had another strong showing at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the IMSA Prototype Challenge race. The third-place finish completes a back-to-back-to-back podium, having finished first in 2019 and 2020 at this venue. Mid-Ohio, the home track for MLT Motorsports team manager Eric VanBibber, is proving to be a favorite for team and drivers alike.
Sarchet qualified on the second row in P3 and ran a strong opening stint, pitting for fuel, tires and a driver swap from 4th position. Unfortunately there was a log jam in pit lane so Dickerson lost a bit of time before returning to the track, still in 4th position. A drive through penalty later in the race pushed them back to 8th, but Dickerson was able to put his head down and foot to the floor, and drive back to 3rd position, capturing the final step of the podium.
“I was really hoping we could complete the hat trick at Mid-Ohio but it just wasn’t meant to be this year,” offered Dickerson. “We had really great pace and a solid race strategy. Josh drove a fantastic opening stint but some troubles in the pit lane hindered our overall results. Nevertheless, we still fought back as a team and ended up on the podium! I’m really looking forward to Watkins Glen and I know we will find ourselves on top soon.”
With three rounds remaining in the season championship, MLT Motorsports is sitting in a great spot, as they look to earn their first IMSA Prototype Challenge championship. Only 40 points separate Dickerson and Sarchet, from series leaser Moritz Kranz.
The next round, held at Watkins Glen International, is set to be run on July 2. You can watch it live on NBCSN’s Track Pass or follow timing and scoring at IMSA.com.
